Hi, Ray,
Sorry I didn't reply to your comment earlier. I haven't kept up this blog as well as I'd like since my business is doing that for other people. The name you mention are familiar but I don't remember knowing them. You're right that Holmes & Narver was earlier. I got there after them and the contract was with -- I can't remember right now. There's a site I put up a while ago that might have some interest for you. It's www.oldseals.com.

I was on the recovery of the first reentry vehicle to by shot into the bay. I was with Doc Berryman, Mac Douglas and others I don't remember. I was stationed at Kwajalien with the EOD team. It was a memorable experience.

to Vern Clinton FYI- I was a recovery diver picking up missile components from the bottom of Enewetok lagoon in the early 1960's.that were fired from Vandenberg,California. we worked for "Holmes and Narver" on a government contract at that time. as I recall it was earlier than 1965?. the other divers were Paul Tedder, Larry McIntire, and several other ex navy UDT divers who joined us later on these recovery projects. Moose Mc Clarity, Tez Morrison, a UDT lieutenant by the name of Dick Sorsby, Larry Berg, Duke Hubbard these are all the ones I recall. keeping in mind these operations took place over 50 years ago. I have lost track of most of the divers who were there except for Paul Tedder, I recall the Enewetok Lagoon as a beautiful atoll in the Marshall Islands, and a wonderful experience for me at the time. we lived in Quonset Huts the same as other Military personnel who were assigned there along with other Coast Guard type and Air force personnel we had a great dive locker next to the airfield. we used Twin 72 cubic steel SCUBA cylinders and as I recall we charged them to 2400 psi when diving operations were not in effect we participated in pile driving work to renovate docks and unloaded ships every month or so which carried food and supplies to support the personnel who lived and worked on the atoll. that's it for now Ray Spillers Sugarland, TX

Thanks for your comment. I haven't written lately, but plan to in the future. As far as background, prior to most of my writing I was in the Navy, UDT12, a special forces unit that was a precursor of the Seal teams.

Very enjoyable reading. Did you stop writing? I'm sure you have many more stories to share. You mention Navy. Were you a Seal?
